This last week we have celebrated some fantastic women at our club... and we haven't even scratched the surface. Women's lacrosse is a big part of our club and the committee is 100% committed to seeing our club back in the women's state league competition.

If you know any young (or not so young) women who are keen to play or even to come back to the game, please send them our way!

Another school clinic recruit, Amelie Cook is fast becoming a player to watch. Her determination and willingness to learn make her a coaches dream. Her hard work is paying off too, with selection to last years U15 Lightning rep team.

This year she moves into U18's and will no doubt help out our senior women with their numbers. Amelie will easily hold her own in seniors as her speed and height will be an advantage. Anyway... "No pain no gain" right Amelie!!!

Go get em in 2023 Amelie... we know you will smash it!

"Lacrosse is forever going to be my favourite sport and I am glad that I will be able to keep learning and growing and getting better." This could have been said by any one of us.

"Able to keep learning and growing and getting better" Playing Box Lacrosse will do that... especially if you are a young lady playing in South Australia's first ever Box Lacrosse Team!

Olivia WIlson went to a SAPSASA lacrosse day and has never looked back! After the Box tourny she will be looking forward to playing U18 and Seniors this year. I have seen Liv at training and she is ferocious! She will be great at box... and she thinks all of her yellow and red cards has set her up well for it.

Good luck Liv!

Have you heard? We have 2 participants in South Australia's first Women's Box Lacrosse Team playing in Melbourne next week!
One of those young women is Amy Millbank.
When Amy is not at the beach, she is making waves on the lacrosse field. Amy has achieved so much in lacrosse at such a young age:
 U15 rep teams 2018, 2019
First State League Game at 15 years old 2019
U18 State team 2022 after a season off with injury
  Coaching 2019, 2020 & 2022
A whole host of junior awards
AND NOW THE SENIOR WOMEN"S BOX LACROSSE TEAM 2023!!!

Amy says she has always taken the opportunity to play up a grade ever since she started... it's no wonder you have developed in to a fantastic young player. We look forward to seeing you play State League for Sturt in the not to distant future and wish you all the best for your trip to Melbourne next week.

Tamryn loves hanging out with her team mates in the changerooms before games. We get it... the nervous excitement and anticipation of getting out there and doing your thing! Tam is also one of South Australia's best up and coming umpires, recognised by Lacrosse SA winning the Rookie Umpire of the year award in 2022. She also umpired at the recent Under 18 Nationals held at Brighton this year.

We love Tam's favourite saying... "There is no fear when you are having fun"! It is a perfect catch cry for our many talented junior girls that will be joining Tam in the senior womens team in the next few years.

The committee has a plan to get Sturt Women back to the State League comp where they belong and Tam is an important part of that plan.

Good luck for the 2023 season Tam.

On Wednesday 25th January, Sturt Lacrosse Club hosted the Hinuera Rugby & Sports touring junior girls Lacrosse team. An amazing experience for both teams, it was fantastic to see how they played such a great high level game of lacrosse with such a great attitude. The sportsmanship shown by both teams was excellent. What was even better was the friendships being made afterwards as they all shared a meal together.

SLC thanks everyone involved in making this happen, from the kitchen and bar team, to the coaches, particularly Coach Jason from Hinuera, the umpires Tammy and Tracy, Pete Green for marking the field, Bec Keller who did the fianl scheduling with the clubs and especially Dean Forman for starting the idea and running with it. We will be seeing more of Dean as he is coming to live in Adelaide and rumoured to have been appointed to a big role with a local club.

Hinuera have returned home to NZ, experiencing delays due to the current weather phenomenon occurring there. We are thinking of you all.

Appreciation Post!!!

This guy got into lacrosse because his kids played... unfortunately they don't play anymore (we would love to have them back 😉😉) but not only did Pete Green keep hanging around, he plays, and is on the Committee, holding the position of Grounds Manager!!! Often he is out the back with his favourite toy at the club... the new industrial dishwasher!😁😁

This Sunday just gone, he spent six hours painting the field markings from scratch on the Helen Black field for both men and women. This is just in time for the junior girls game against Hinuera Rugby and Sports Inc touring U15 girls lacrosse team on Wednesday and for the State League Men to start training on 2nd Feb.

Thanks Pete... you are a legend!!!

Meet the coaches!

Paul Kernaghan has been successful in his application to coach the Men's State League team for 2023. Paul has been many things around the club including the top job... President. The past few years he has coached at junior levels and now he is back in the Head Coach role. With him he has brought on 2 fantastic assistants.

Cam Adams, originally from Brighton has been involved in many successful teams both at Club, State and Australian levels. Cam is looking to expand his experience at senior grades with Paul and is really excited to share what he can with our young and developing group. Cam will be in charge of our attacking unit and has plenty of experience in this area to teach our lads.

Robert "Henry" Lawson, originally from Sturt as a young lad, has a fantastic history at Glenelg. Currently an Australian team Assistant Coach, Henry has won Premierships at state league level both as a player and a coach, most recently in 2021. He has also represented Australia as player multiple times so he know what it takes to be a high performing athlete. Henry is excited to work with our defensive unit and says our group may only need some fine tuning, pointing out our MSL team only average 9 goals against. It will be great to see how Henry can develop our defensive unit.

It is awesome to see such highly regarded coaches joining Paul in the coaching team to work with our developing group. I know the boys are super keen to hit the track for training and are just as excited to work with the coaches as the coaches are with the players.

Good luck everyone!

Our next champion is one of our junior girls, Imogen Wilson or... Immy!

Immy went to Perth with the Girls U15 rep team called Comets and ended up coming back with a Championship medallion seen here proudly around her neck. She has come along way since watching sister Olivia from the sidelines!

Immy says "Lacrosse should be played in all schools as it's the best game to play! It’s a great way to stay fit and make friends."

We agree Immy... 100%!!!
